I don't think we've discussed this before but I'm interested to hear your thoughts on the Labyrinth itself. Do you think it has the same set up for each runner or does it change for each runner?
Personally, I think it changes each time to suit the runner. I like the idea of it being somehow psychologically linked to the runner.

I have this idea that the Labyrinth is sort of independent of Jareth's control. A genus loci, of sorts. It does change for each runner, but under it's own rules and desires, and not generally in the ways Jareth would want it to. Perhaps it even changes him.
I think this would annoy Jareth to no end, until he learned to use it. Look at what the Labyrinth has done, and learn about the runner.
Then again, I've always been more fascinated by the Labyrinth as a realm, than I am with Jareth.

This _is_ an interesting question. I also sort of thought of it as mildly sentient, although perhaps not totally intelligent. I still like the psychological explanation, like it's a physical representation of the runner's mind, but my opinion tends to shift.

I think it changes for everyone who enters the Labyrinth. Jareth has the magical abilities to add challenges and change things up, especially if the person who has to go through it is defiant. I also agree that the Labyrinth itself, aside from the challenges Jareth can add, is independently changing all the time.
