All you Labyrinth fans, is there anyone who feels that the film is all about The Gentleman and wouldn't give it a second glance if not for the majestic presence of Mr. Bowie? Would anyone here be fans of the film if some other fellow had played the Goblin King? I like the other aspects of the film, but for me, the main attraction is the Thin White Emperor's enchanting turn as the otherworldly monarch.

This is a weird one to try to answer. Yes and no. It would still be interesting but probably not as high on the list, especially considering who their other options were at the time. Maybe. I am much more of a Jareth fan than I am a David Bowie fan, although I've sort of become one after a fashion over the years but I'm really really picky about what of his stuff I like. Having said that, I don't think the film is totally about him anymore than it's all about Jennifer. It's just that with something like this, there's a definite tendency for some of us to take what we like and run with it rather than digesting it as a whole.

Sparkina. Nobody ... but NOBODY else could have been "The Goblin King" in my mind. What truly cracks me up is the general knowledge that Michael Jackson had been considered for the role *bangs head on desk*. WHY?! That's not even an option!!! We would have ended up with a cross between The Wiz and *God*only*knows*what*else*. Wait - can you even imagine (talented as he was) Michael Jackson performing "Magic Dance" LMAO!!! Even so, being a long time fan of fantasy - I probably would have given the film a spin anyway.
Hehehee ... aw c'mon Tink, you KNOW that "Labyrinth" was simply a format to display Bowies' *cough* umm ... shall we say "talents"?
That being said, I was a David Bowie fan long before the film had been released.
