^ So sad, but I have to agree with you I'm 15, and I only know two other people of my age who listen to David Bowie (one being my best friend, who liked him after I introduced him to her). I just wish teenagers would see that there's more to music than what's played on the stations they listen to, true music artists who write their own songs from scratch, and play their own instruments, and maybe are a lil bit different and eccentric. Me and said best friend were going to put some Bowie on for the class when everyone was listening to some music, and several people asked who he was, and the rest all just turned their noses up, purely because he's "outdated" and therefore "crap"...you know how it is. I just wish that teenagers would see beyond the Miley Cyrus's and Justin Bieber's of this world, maybe have a browse through their parents' record collection and see what wonders they find there I don't know where I'd be without Bowie, and in fact, without several other "outdated" bands - The Runaways, Queen, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, AC/DC etc. I'm sure that there would be other people my age who would like them, but they never even give them a chance Anyway.... sorry about that, rant over! Spread the Bowie love, people <3

Right on target, LadyStardust. You're 15, you say? Same age I was when I first discovered Bowie and his power of musical enchantment. Oh, I had heard the name David Bowie before, but it wasn't until I first heard the song "Let's Dance" (in 1983) that I developed an appreciation and fascination for his heavenly, sexy voice. Well, I was in the grocery store one day, listening to the "Outside" recoring on my portable CD player as I loaded my purchases onto the conveyor belt. The cashier, who had to be between the ages of 17 and 22 inclusive, asked me what artist I was listening to, and I said, "David Bowie, " and she looked at me like I was from outer space and said, "Who's David Bowie?" And to top it all off, she pronounced The Gentleman's last name like BOW and curtsey instead of like BOW and arrow

Eh, if you ask me, it's Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber who are crap... and both will probably turn out just like all the other worn-out teen idols who either disappear or turn into train-wrecks like Britney Spears.
I never liked the popular teen music in high school either, all that backstreet boys and eminem crap. It sucked then, it sucks now.

I bet all the Backstreet Boys and the N'Sync kids (save for maybe Justin Timberlake and Lance Bass) have jobs at fast-food companies now (while FANTASIZING about being the next Bowie.)

And the thing is, the silly infants that pass for musicians today don't have -- and never will have -- the extensive back catalogue and rich musical legacy that our Mr. Bowie has

Me. I'm currently in adoration of David. I've been listening to tons of his stuff. I love "Blue Jean", "Rebel, Rebel" and "Ziggy Stardust" as well as "And the World falls Down," "Magic Dance" and tons of other songs I'm forgetting. I had to give a few of his songs listens again, but it was worth it!

hmm, I'm still on the fence on the whole (apropos considering who we're talking about I put Bowie in sort of the same catagory as plain coffee, cantaloupe, and lavender in dark chocolate: it's something that you either like or don't like and sometimes it's a bit of an acquired taste. I have to admit I liked his songwriting ability first, how's that for a music major answer? Probably my favorite complete albums are Hunky Dory and Images 1966-67 (that last one was rereleased as a cd just under his name - I bought London Boy under the impression that all the Images songs were on there in the same versions. Silly me.) That early one is a bit rough on the vocals through parts but I love the creativity involved, each song is like it's own little world. 'When I Live My Dream' has to be one of my favorite ballads. Among other weird offerings, go find the iSelect David Bowie - it's interesting to see what _he_ likes and the reworked 'Time Will Crawl' gives me goosebumps.
