I was watching the movie again (of course) and noticed that for some odd reason David Bowie looks far lovelier in the beginning and the end than he does in the middle, especially in the tunnel and garden scenes with Hedgewart, er, Hoggle. Lovelier than he looks in the ballroom scene too. I can't figure out what it is, but he really does. It's not really the hair and makeup, though it sort of is...maybe those scenes were shot at different times and his hair and makeup hadn't been figured out yet? Because really he looks his absolute most gorgeous in Sarah's house and on the hill, and then again in the Escher room. In the tunnel scenes he looks very harsh and maybe a little fuller of face...maybe it's the fault of the lighting? It's a mystery.

I think he looks quite predatory in the tunnel scene, his thinner looking face makes him look a bit more dangerous. I quite liked that look!! lol
As for the scenes with Hoggle ("Bosom companions? Friends?"), I do think that they went a little overboard with the make up and lighting. He looks really pale and ill.

Was anything of "Labyrinth" filmed during DB's period of difficulty with drugs? That might explain his different "looks"..

No, that period was during the mid 70's when he was filming The Man Who Fell To Earth.

I am wondering if it was purposefully done, to make the character look exhausted...
