Fantastic news! Archaia are finally releasing a comic series that deals with Jareth's back story. It's not out until February next year so still a bit of a wait. The info they've given so far is that Jareth is human and that his parents were from 18th century Venice. This excites me even more as I'm obsessed with 18th century Venice! Anyway, here's an article about it from Entertainment Weekly: ew.com/books/2017/11/14/labyrinth-comic-david-bowie/

I'm kinda gritting my teeth on the 'human' thing - think about his behavior in the movie here: do they _really_ want to be making that kind of an open comparison _right now_? I mean, it's almost culturally excusable if you pull the Fae card: different culture, different sets of morals, even specist superiority complex if you want to make it a little ugly, but human? Granted I'll be reading it anyway, but sort of holding my breath to see what they do here...

Straight away I had so many questions....where did his powers come from? How can he change into an owl if he's human? etc. It gave me the hook to want to know the answers. As for his behaviour, I have always believed that he was only "living up to her expectations" of him, which were that he had "fallen in love with the girl" {according to Sarah's tale). I've never bought into the Jareth/Sarah romance, I just couldn't see it.
