Most folks (not on these boards so much but on other Laby sites) have something to say about the fact that Bowie-as-Jareth's tights were oh-so-contoured, but to me, that's just a small part of his charm and appeal. The thing that makes The Gentleman as Jareth sexy, to me, is his voice (both singing and speech), his face, his dancing, his presence, and things much higher than -- well, let's say, his lowers. (The tights don't hurt though )

LOL, yea there's a lot of talk about Bowie's "area" in that film but I think that's more just people's sense of humor than anyone actually seriously thinking the film is all about Bowie's package. If you watch the extras on the anniversary DVD it is stated plainly that the costume they put Bowie in was very deliberate, even the tight leggings, despite getting some flack about it. But yea, people kinda make too much of it. (I don't know that Mr Bowie would be flattered by stating his naughty bits are a "small part" of anything though, LOL)

Yeah, I'm with you on that one, Sparkina. He has such a powerful and intimidating presence. The best example of it is during the tunnel scene.... You're a child-like teenage girl on the cusp of womanhood and here's a grown man awakening something in you that you don't understand. I think my 15 year old self would have felt intimidated too!! I agree, people mention his tights as a focus far too often. There was so much more than his look. His presence in any scene was amazing. I do like that tunnel scene for a couple of reasons. It seemed like a power play, to show Sarah how he was more powerful than her. Watching Hoggle tremble before him, Jareth puts his hand to his ear to force him to show his allegiance is not to Sarah. After he shows his power, he leans into Sarah- expecting respect. Even then Sarah stubbornly stands up to him- aggravating and surprising him. He speeds up the clock to show her he does not have to be that generous. His remark "You say that so often, I wonder what your basis of comparison is" To me that means, Jareth feels it isn't fair to him that she does not surrender. In other words "You're the one not being fair to me Sarah!" Don't make him mad...

I love Jareth's pause after Sarah snarkily answers with "It's a piece of cake!" He was definitely speechless for a few seconds there. You can see it on his face right after Hoggle slaps himself in the forehead. You could totally tell he was all " " inside. Hehe.

Oh my ... just The Gentleman's VOICE does it for me (singing or otherwise). He could read the phone book to me and I'd be happy.

I might have to agree with you, but then again I've always had a weakness for a good accent and fabulous tone quality! I think it's a musician thing. But it's the way he carries himself, too. You know, it's not what you have but what you _do_ with it? Yeah...
