Jareth is my imaginary boyfriend, but I have a soft spot for the Fierys too.

Jareth kinda steals the show lol Bowie was just PERFECTLY cast for Jareth; he has that very unique look about him that is not often found today. His eyes are a huge thing, but then also Bowies own personality, voice and structure is just a perfect Fae like quality. Being Jareth was just mind blowing to watch and any Bowie fan can recognize that he put a lot of his own heart and soul into the music and songs.

Oh, I know!!! He does have that "otherworldly" quality to him. Nowadays, though, I get the impression that he doesn't really like to talk about Labyrinth much.......or is that just me? Helen

If you watch the extra bits on the anniversary DVD, it's pretty obvious that Jareth definitely was Bowie's character. The general design and idea might have been Henson and Froud's but there's no denying Bowie put his own spin on it. And of course the songs are good! Bowie's never half-assed anything as far as I know, even if it was a "children's film".
I'm so glad they didn't go with Sting or *shudder* Michael Jackson (the other two they were initially considering for the role). Especially the latter, that would have likely ended up disturbing on several levels. O.o;

I think anybody else as Jareth would have killed the movie!! David just oozes sex and sensuality!! I think if my 14 year old self had been cornered in that tunnel with him I would definitely have felt intimidated. Helen

Bowie is able to balance sensuality and power very well, and Jareth and the entire movie was really just based all around him.

I don't know that it would have killed the movie, but it definitely would not be what it is. I doubt you'd still have people talking about it 20 years later, that's for damn sure. It probably would have just been another fantasy film for kids, certainly not the wide appeal it holds. It's hard to think of Henson doing anything genuinely bad but Bowie definitely was the best choice for the role.

I love Jareth and his enchanting personality.. the fact that he portrays himself to be aloof and above everyone else.. but at the same time demonstrates a softer side despite how intimidating he is to everyone... <333 but since most people picked him. I choose my second best pick just for the sake of being different XP
So I chose the worm!! Ello! <33 What? I love the worm!! XD XD It's one of those random cute things in a movie that make you smile XD <3

My dads dog looks like Didymus. "It's only a Goblin city!" The town crazy person where I live, looks like Hoggle. And I had a teacher at Uni who looked like the junk lady.

Jareth! All the way. Areyou kidding me? I mean, we're talking about DAVID BOWIE here, for crying in the Goblin City!
Actually, the casting honchos considered THREE other gents from the music world besides The Gentleman to be goblin king. Sting. (Well, okay, he might have worked in the role too IF Bowie had declined it. Second best, though.) Michael Jackson. (That WOULD have been disturbing. Plus, his voice doesn't have the sweet, sexy, angelic-but-manly quality Bowie's has) Mick Jagger (Mick Jagger as the Goblin King? Don't make me laugh and smear my lip gloss! :-) Jagger IS a talented fellow, but personally, I think he has all the sexiness of E. coli bacteria. That's just my opinion, so don't none of you Stones fans get your crystals cracked).
Nope, in my opinion, the role of the Goblin King was made for Bowie, and only Bowie, and I think the spark of sexiness and charm and enchantment the Thin White EMPEROR (never a duke, much grander and higher than a duke or even a king) brings to the character is one of the things, if not THE thing, that makes the film appealing not only to the crayons-and-naptime crowd but also to those viewers who are over three feet tall and know how to spell "cat."
As far as the Muppet characters, I did like the Worm and the Junk Lady.
Back to the human characters, I did like Sarah's struggles with her growing, and the interactions with the dad and stepmom, and baby Toby was a cutie, but basically, as far as I'm concerned, this film is really all about Bowie

Well I'm going to have to go with the majority and say Jareth Why? well the main reason is Bowie's special touch. (Not that everyone else didn't do a good job with their characters) Bowie did a great job emphiazing Jareth's dominant and romantic sides of his character.
